Last night we saw several teams have defenseman going down with various levels of injuries...Toronto, Minnesota, Tampa, and NY Rangers all have some question marks and are rumored to be looking more intensely today...
Even before the injuries of last night and prior, the Oilers had been rumored to be very interested in Shattenkirk, but there were serious questions as to whether or not Shattenkirk would sign long term in Edmonton...and no one wants to pay the hefty price it will take to get Shattenkirk for the rest of the season without some assurances of him remaining with his new team...
The Leafs are very much interested in Shattenkirk, as are the Bruins...If any top player gets seriously injured in NY, the Rangers may be the ONLY team who would consider Shattenkirk as a rental...
A Gallant Return to the NHL?
The NY Islanders are talking to and are very interested in Gerard Gallant. I honestly can't think of a better fit in NY. He is great with young players and e perfect fit for Tavares. Gallant being head coach doesn't hurt your prospects of keeping Tavares happy enough to get the extension done.
