I have been really conservative up to this point about this happening. I have written that there is still too much to get done and the Canadiens have shown a propensity in the past to not put together deals of this magnitude.
However, I have to admit now, that the Habs are very much looking and acting like a team that is seeing the rare opportunity before them and getting ready to pounce. Especially this morning as sources everywhere, even the most conservative of sources, are telling me that something happened overnight and this whole Vinny to Montreal scenario is getting crazier.
From three sources..
"This is an extremely real possibility."
"The likelihood gaining more momentum by the hour."
"I would put it at 60/40 that Vinny is a Canadien for the All-Star game, and possibly one of the current Habs will skate in the Game as a Tampa Bay Lightning player."
And finally,
"the key is Montreal needs to be ready to move one of the big two d-men. And it looks like they are getting there."
Other teams are going to surely move this price up--many of them...I have heard at least half of the NHL is in on this...However, when push comes to shove everyone I talk to seems to feel that there are seven other serious players here...the Rangers, the Canucks, the Bruins, the Leafs, the Flyers, the Kings, and the Flames...
My question to fans of these teams is simple.
How much are you willing to pay?
This year's Rumour Chart has been by far the most complex one to date to compile and fielding all the Vinny calls has definitely meant that most of the compiling has to take place late in the evening when the phone stops ringing.
