'Hawks trade Daley to Pittsburgh for Scuderi

As we discussed on the Buzzcast this afternoon, Pittsburgh GM Jim Rutherford made it known far and wide that he was looking for a puck-rushing defenseman who could play in the Penguins' top four.

There were some indications that Anaheim’s Cam Fowler may have been the target of the Pens interest, but instead Rutherford has gone the more inexpensive route by sending veteran blueliner Rob Scuderi to the Chicago Blackhawks for Trevor Daley.

Both defensemen have a year remaining on their contracts and Pittsburgh is retaining a third of Scuderi's $3.375 million salary to bring in Daley (using some of the cap room created by the placing of Pascal Dupuis on LTIR).

Daley scored a career-high 16 goals with Dallas last season but has not fit in after being acquired as part of the Patrick Sharp deal. Scuderi has lost a step, but can still play in a bottom pairing role and provides Stanley Cup experience.

Just got off the phone with a very trusted NHL source who is very close with the goings on in Anaheim and he said, "Make no mistake about it. The other shoe is about to drop. The 5-1 loss at home to Carolina on Saturday night cut to the core...combine that with the lack of games the Ducks are playing right now due to a weird schedule quirk, and all signs point towards a massive explosion."

There are some who believe that Cam Fowler almost left with Carolina on Sunday and that the Canes and Ducks are still discussing a deal that would see Jeff Skinner sent to Anaheim...

"That wouldn't surprise me one bit," my source confirmed.

Bruce Boudreau isn't the problem in Anaheim, but as my source says, "It is becoming apparent he isn't the answer either..."

With the Penguins turning to Sullivan and not Carlyle, the possibility exists that the more offensive Randy Carlyle could return to the Ducks.

The Ducks have talked to several teams including Buffalo...who likes Anderson...I also have heard the Senators and Flyers have discussed moving a forward to Anaheim.

We will discuss all this and more on today's Buzzcast at 1pm
