The Vancouver Canucks have fired coach Alain Vigneault and assistant coaches Rick Bowness and Newell Browne this afternoon.

After going to the seventh game of the Stanley Cup Final two years ago, the Canucks bowed out in the first round two years in a row to Los Angeles and San Jose and it was expected that these early exits would result in some major shakeup.

Already I am hearing the murmurs. Of course it is widely known that Ryan Miller wants to go West, but the question that may really make this interesting is if the best offers come from the East...

Here are the top 5 teams I am hearing at the moment who may be VERY much involved come draft time.

Colorado:
It stands to reason that the Avalanche could be the perfect team to open up their box of gems for the Sabres and attempt to bring in the star goalie. Excitement and attendance are down in Denver and Miller not only brings you a legit #1 star goalie, but he brings you big time draw. The Avalanche have the right amount of picks as well as some depth at the Center position from which to draw.

Chicago:
As of this point it is a little hard to imagine, but should the Hawks go out in the second round to Detroit it is very possible that management could look to make a big splash to offset the disappointment after such a fantastic season. Then again...this series is still very much in the balance.

Philadelphia:
There is so much we don't know about the Flyers off-season plans, but I do know that as the season wound down I kept hearing Ryan Miller's name being mentioned. Would he come to Philly and stay in the East? Could the Sabres trade him to one of their most hated rivals? Would the Flyers part with a player like Brayden Schenn to make a deal happen?

St Louis:
A source I trust completely continues to tell me the Blues are very much an option in this come draft time. No one can deny the great play of Elliot this past season, and yet the Sabres love the pieces the Blues could put into a deal and it sounds like the Blues really, REALLY like Ryan Miller.

Phoenix:
Mike Smith is still not inked and I keep hearing how much the NHL would love to have Miller go to the Coyotes and breathe some fresh air into the desert dogs. The Smith contract talks will be VERY intriguing to follow for sure...

Longer shots...

Dallas...If Lindy Ruff lands in Dallas (or elsewhere) you could be sure Miller would be a target. Dallas is of course in the west, but the Ruff connection is very real. There are many who feel the only way Miller stays east is if he follows Lindy.

San Jose... Niemi had an incredible season and it is hard to imagine the Sharks changing directions, but this is a team many close to Miller say Miller would most like to be traded to.
