Yesterday on the podcast we talked about the unlikeliness of an offer sheet given the current stagnant nature of the salary cap. After that podcast a source contacted me and said that he had heard a lot of talk at the Draft regarding the Bruins "offer sheeting " Jacob Trouba. It is apparently possible. The Bruins did inquire about Trouba last week and were told he wasn't available via trade. If they are serious, it may open up trade talks as it did when the Flyers were serious about Shea Weber in Nashville.
On Stempniak...
One of the somewhat forgotten about UFAs is Lee Stempniak. Lee has been quite the journeyman, but last year showed a ton of resolve and a real scoring touch when given time and responsibility in NJ. I am hearing he could be headed back to NJ (remember he was traded to Boston at the deadline). I am also hearing Buffalo (e3) and Philly (e4) are very interested in adding his services. This could be the perfect fit for a team looking for that elusive "top 6 help."
On Troy Brouwer...
If the Blues can move Kevin Shattenkirk they would like to retain Brouwer. Chances are that Shattenkirk gets moved (some are even saying as early as today). Montreal (e4) and Tampa (e2) are among teams who really like what Brouwer brings.
NJ and Nashville are watching this situation closely at this point.
On Frans Nielsen...
Unless Stamkos becomes an Islander I would hold out more hope than is being portrayed right now in the possibility of Frans re-signing in NY. The Islanders and Nielsen have broken off talks for now, but really over about $500,000 per year I am told. If he becomes a UFA completely expect Buffalo and Carolina to front the charge.
