Seriously, If you are still awake and not watching the Kings/Capitals you should be.
Anyway, I don't often write a blog just about a penalty kill, but what I just witnessed midway through the second was nothing short of amazing.
With the Caps killing off a two-man advantage one of the Caps players broke his stick. Brooks Laich handed the defender his stick, so now the Caps are essentially three short, but not really.
Brooks Laich, stickless and covering his point, thows his hand out like a goalie and stops a slapshot with the palm of his hand. And you could tell that this shot stung his hand. But play continued as the Kings moved the puck quickly.
Puck goes back to the point again, and this time the still stickless Laich (with his hurt hand tucked into his body) blocks the slapshot off of his leg. Again you could tell that this puck stung.
The Caps then get a player back and its a 5 on 4...the puck comes back to the point again and Brooks again throws his body in front of a slapshot, falls down and hands the puck out of the zone as the Caps get their player back....
Amazing...and worth a little special mention.
Watch this....it doesn't do it justice...but it gives you an idea.
