The defensive shuffle...
On Willie Mitchell, Kevin Bieksa, and Paul Mara...
I am a huge Willie Mitchell fan. I am hearing Vancouver is still a viable option should the Canucks move Bieksa to San Jose or Montreal. Many felt Mitchell would be a King however, and still could be a King...but he isn't yet, and that has led to speculation a deal fell through and that the Kings may turn to Paul Mara. I know, if healthy, Mitchell was the Capitals target. He is exactly what is needed in Washington.
Then this morning enter the Canadiens...They are losing Paul Mara, and realizing their size on the defensive side of things may have been their downfall in the Philly series, they are now also interested in Willie Mitchell.
The Sharks, who were in on Kaberle, really like Bieksa. Would the Canucks move Bieksa so close to home? The Sharks fall back could be Randy Jones or Paul Mara...
Meanwhile in Toronto...
People who know Paul Kariya know his love of NOT playing in the big city spotlight. Well, he is in a holding pattern in Anaheim while the Ducks try to get Bobby Ryan done...however, today there is word out the Leafs are considering bringing in Kariya.
There is also a fascinating rumor out there the Leafs are about to "make people forget about Kaberle in a big way" with another deal which could happen by Thursday evening. We will see...
But also on Kariya...
If I was Pittsburgh and I was Paul Kariya, I would get a deal done immediately. What a fantastic fit Kariya could still be for Crosby. I hear there have been minor talks, but nothing big...yet.
On Montreal and Price...
The two sides are apart on years. Price wants a one year deal, maybe two, while the Canadiens are looking upward of five. My question is "When does a goalie in the situation Price is in ever want LESS Years?" Price has NOT proven himself, and yet has been handed the keys to one of the premiere franchises in all of sports...and he want LESS years???
I continue to hear from sources up north, Antti Niemi could very well be the fall-back plan in Montreal. It would be quite the coup to get the Cup winning goalie after giving up Halak.
Also on Niemi...
Do not count the Sharks or Flyers out...at all.
On Calgary and Savard....
The Savard Rumors are back in full force in Calgary today. I like the fit a great deal...
And finally...
On Kovalchuk....
It appears to me a deal between the Devils and Kovalchuk could be close to happening, but NJ needs to make some moves first...Salvador and Zubrus could be moving...Zubrus to the Islanders continues to be an interesting rumour...I have also heard Zubrus name mentioned with Buffalo and Toronto...
