The next volley has been thrown in the on going struggle for a new arena in Calgary. In an article in today's Calgary Sun...

Flames President Ken King...

"We had an owners meeting today and have determined -- and need to advise (NHL commissioner) Gary (Bettman) -- that we're no longer going to pursue a new facility," said King...
"We've been meeting for months, and they've been spectacularly unproductive -- and that's unfortunate."

The timing couldn't be better for King.

Yesterday Seattle announced funding for a new arena and the mayor of Calgary announced he is running for re-election...The current Mayor and council have been the people with whom King has claimed to have had "spectacularly unproductive" meetings or months.

This is not great for sure....The city of Calgary doesn't appear to feel the Flames/Concerts/Events are worth them footing the bill. The NHL's response will be fascinating, but talking to a few sources today they aren't exactly sounding like the Flames are heading to Seattle any time soon....

One source noted that King "has to be bolder and we are glad he is being more bold. Trying to wait for action from this government has not been working..."

When I asked that source if the Flames could be moving to Seattle or elsewhere I was told. "This is still a long game. It took Edmonton forever to get that new building approved...almost 7 years.."

What's the buzz?

Should Calgary taxpayers foot the bill?
If they don't, should the Flames move?
