According to Bob McKenzie at TSN Travis Green is finalizing the last aspects of a contract to coach the Vancouver Canucks...Solid pick up and great hockey person.
Last week I addressed 5 players that I have been researching as possible Vegas Golden Knights OR possible trade bait should these teams be unable to protect them, but are afraid to lose them for nothing... Here are 5 more I am tracking. These are in no particular order:
Eric Staal, Minnesota.
Staal had a great rebound season for sure, but somewhat surprisingly doesn't have a NMC in his contract with the Wild. The Wild have many young players they are looking into protecting, and Staal has a pedigree and some star power that may play well in Vegas.
Lars Eller, Washington.
Still going strong in the playoffs, but Eller has size and skills that could potentially make him very attractive to McPhee...
Reilly Smith, Florida.
Smith is another interesting case and has shown a streaky scoring touch. As a Bruin, Smith was let go because of a numbers crunch, not because of his skill. In Florida could the same fate await him?
Brandon Davidson, Montreal.
Word on the street is McPhee LOVES Davidson, who is a big D man and was just acquired by Montreal from Edmonton in the Desharnais trade...Many feel Edmonton moved him because they knew McPhee loved him and they didn't want to lose him for nothing...
Michael Grabner, NY Rangers.
Grabner is coming off a very strong year and netted two goals in the opening round, yet these rumors won't seem to go away...The Rangers would surely try and move him or make a side deal before Vegas could grab him...
