1. A lot of internet chatter out there regarding Alex Semin to possibly Detroit. While Semin does have a big supporter in Datsyuk I am more inclined to find this rumor a plant to try and force Edmonton's hand and land Hemsky. Although if Hemsky ends up in Pittsburgh perhaps Semin could find himself suddenly part of a bidding war. The price for Alex is of course higher than Ales...and Washington doesn't feel the same sort of urgency according to my sources...
2. on Gleason.... I keep hearing the Lightning as a strong possibility with the Canadiens and Flyers involved in these talks as well... for as long as he's been available, I think we may find a much bigger return for Gleason than anyone expected...showing once again how shrewd a horse trade Rutherford is (some feel there is no GM better at player for player moves and/or knowing how and when the price is highest for a player..
3. on Jeff Carter to Toronto (e3). Talking to my source last night, he gave me this little gem. The Leafs have been scouting Brassard, but they have also been keeping an eye on Jeff Carter. As rough a year as Carter and the Jackets have had, I could see Carter, who has always played very well in the Air Canada Center, being dealt to Toronto by the deadline. My source said while it was a relatively "remote chance right now, anyone who would just dismiss it would be foolish."
4. Habs holding out for Guy Boucher? Yes, I know Boucher is currently the coach of the Lightning, but more than one source has told me that at the end of this year the Habs may approach the Bolts in an attempt to talk to Boucher...Will the Bolts let him? I would imagine they wouldn't want to stand in his way.
5. Looking for a longshot to make a big splash sooner than later? The Islanders are intensely active in the rumor mill right now...the Isles need to make a move soon before another season slips away...as bad as it is right now they are still in it.
6. Iginla to Philly or Washington? It keeps coming up and my source last night added he felt the Penguins would be the favorite come February to land Iggy.
7. Kings want Parise...or possibly Nash....This is not news exactly, but Lombardi knows he too can't wait for the deadline to improve. These Kings have the depth to perhaps get the star that has eluded them.
8. Ryan Malone back to Pittsburgh? There are some sources I truly trust out there who say Malone will only waive to go back to Pittsburgh, and that other teams have tried and failed to convince him otherwise.
9. Ryan Suter less likely to be dealt than Shea Weber? That's what I have heard. However, I must reiterate, if the Preds are in the hunt there is no way either is moved. If Weber is available every NHL team will be in on it, but look for the 5 most aggressive to be Buffalo, NY Islanders, Philly, Montreal, and Florida.
10. The Leafs looking at goalies? There is much speculation now regarding this. Josh Harding's name keeps being mentioned, but I have heard Jonathan Bernier could be more likely.
