If you have a job, you know the feeling. When you go on vacation, something will happen at work and you won't be there. I went on a vacation and since I cover the Ducks, not a whole heck of a lot happened since the draft.

I checked in from where I was and I got this picture in my head of “It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” staring Bob Murray. Remember the part of the show when the kids were trick-or-treating and after each house they checked their bags:
Kid 1: “I got a lollipop.”
Kid 2: “I got bubble gum.”
Charlie Brown: “I got a rock.”

In hockey terms:
GM1: “I got Milan Lucic”
GM2: “I got David Backes”
Bob Murray: “I got a rock, er I mean Mason Raymond”

That's not to say any of those guys or any free agent would have worked for the Ducks. More like everyone else is doing something and Anaheim did virtually nothing. A left behind feeling settled in.

Let's face it Mason Raymond, Jared Boll, Nate Guenin and Jeff Schultz are not “impact signings,” good depth players for sure, but no one is going to think that the Ducks improved their team.

I like the thought of dealing Cam Fowler for a top of the line forward. Players rumored by Ek as coming back to Anaheim include Mike Hoffman and David Krecji. Both good players who could do well with the Ducks. Going by Murray's past dealings, the player(s) coming back to Anaheim in a trade are very likely not floating around the rumor mill.

I may be one of the few who are happy with the acquisition of Jonathan Bernier. He will be a great back up to John Gibson. He can bounce back from a sub-par 2016-17 and put himself in a great position to be the starter for the new team in Las Vegas.

By all accounts last week's player development camp went well. Nick Ritchie seems ready to take the next step in his career. Hopefully he can be the left wing this team so desperately needs. Last year's first round pick Jason Larsson also made a good showing.
