I had to be away from the computer all day today and my Amish phone doesn't have Internet service. I did text my fellow BB buddy, Tom Liodice from TheTigerTrack, to ask if there had been any new signings of note by the Islanders.
"Nope." he sent back. So I went on my merry way until I jumped on the computer a few minutes ago. My eyes opened wide as I saw there was a new press release in my in box.
"Ohhhhh!!! Who'd we get!! Who'd we get????" The suspense and possibility of joy lasted until the message opened.
Team Signs Munroe, Reich And Westgarth For Next Season
UNIONDALE, NY, July 2, 2009 – The New York Islanders announced today that they have agreed to terms with three players. Goaltender Scott Munroe, left wing Jeremy Reich and defenseman Brett Westgarth all have signed one-year, two-way contracts.
Huh? Who? Is this supposed to mean something to me?
Okay, maybe that's a little harsh, but it was an enormous let down. Why don't they send these things under the SoundTiger's email address? Then I wouldn't be so dissapointed! I was looking for a name that everyone in the hockey business is already familiar with. I didn't get it... yet. Don't know if we will. But these names certainly won't be gracing the back of anyone's jersey but there own any time soon.
And now, I'm starting to get concerned. I haven't voiced this concern before because I was just believing things will be fine. (Yes, the Kool-aide is Cherry and it mixes well with Vodka) BUT.... Yes, let's talk about face-of-the-franchise, Goalie-for-life
Rick DiPietro for a moment.
Ricky has always liked the spotlight. He enjoys the media bantar and the attention. He's getting married if he hasn't already this summer. Where are the articles? Where's the paparazzi? Where is buzz? There isn't any. Now.... I am concerned.
I know that
Point Blank brought this up a few 100 articles ago, but I'm starting to believe he's onto something.
Rick DiPietro should have been a staple in the community during his rehabilitation period. He is known and loved by Islanders fans. He has been invisible. Considering his personality, this must be killing him.
In his press conference last night, Roloson didn't feel there would be competition with Ricky. He could be right. Ricky may be no match for him. At almost 40,
Dwayne Roloson may be in far better condition that younster
Rick DiPietro. I wonder if Rollie knows anything of... what was his name? ... Oh, right.
Scott Munroe.
grrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaatttttt....Anyone got a valid "Ricky" sighting lately?
Is that 6'7" kid we just drafted ready for the NHL? Anyone in the Islanders main office got pads? Or should Dunham just get a stall in the locker room this season? Hey... he still fits in his pads. He was sitting in them waiting to see if he had to hit the ice last season. He could be ready. You never know!
