10;12 PM: Well, don't let the fat lady sing yet. Rick DiPietro has earned his first win this season as the Sound Tigers beat the Phantoms 4 - 3. DiPietro made 22 saves and the Sound Tigers winless streak is now over.

Sound Tigers managed 40 shots on the Phantoms. I believe it was Brock Nelson's game winning goal with 3:33 left of the third after being sprung from the penalty box.

So... It ain't over yet folks. Not yet.

10 am: The Bridgeport Sound Tigers set Rick DiPietro up for failure last night when Matt Watkins and Matt Donovan were both called for penalties in the first four minutes of the game.

Unlike the Islanders PK, the Sound Tigers did little to help their goal tender during the CT Whale's power play. Two goals in four minutes is enough to deflate any goalie or hockey club, let alone one that is trying to find a way back to the NHL.

Five goals on 12 shots in the first period and Ricky's night was over. Were the Whale intent on making a spectacle of this game? Were the Sound Tigers just hanging Rick out to dry? Or was it just the newness of it all for everyone involved?

Scott Pellerin flat out said that Rick would be in net tonight again. If the outcome is the same, then those questions will be answered -- and the answer will be -- No. Rick just can't handle the speed of the game any longer.

Last night the New York Islanders held their Season Ticket holder party at the coliseum where seat holders skated on the Coliseum ice and mingled with their favorite players.

I went to many of those when I could afford to be a season ticket holder. They were always fun and memorable. It's always great fun for the youngest fans to get up close and actually talk to their favorite players and get an autograph.

Then you'd go home and watch them put that signed puck or stick someplace special in their room where everyone could see it. Always a fun time.

Sunday's game with SpongeBob and Patrick should be a fun time for the kids as well. It will be a fun time for every fan if they can pull out a home ice win -- in regulation.

Sideboard: Ex-NYI Sean Bergenhem won his case against the Florida Panthers who had refused to pay him citing the injury that kept him out of this year's line-up was sustained while he played in Finland. The court ruled that the injury was sustained prior to the lockout and therefore Bergy must be paid.

SiriusXMNHL's Boomer Gordon had a great counter for that. If Sean was already hurt, how could he play in Finland during the lockout? Exactly.

Bergenheim has a history of injuries and this is no different. He will undergo hip and abdominal surgery and is still under contract with the Panthers for two more years. With Sean -- it's always something.
