The Habs are now down 2-0 to the NYR and heading to NY for game 3. For Islanders fans who have been without a horse in this race since oh…. March… we just sit on the sidelines and watch.
Last night’s game offered some additional entertainment, especially for me as I was against the Thomas Vanek trade from the get-go. The 30-year-old has 15 points in 18 regular season games with the Habs, which isn’t bad, but….in 13 post season games, he has only 8 points and 22 shots on net and is a -3. His 11:41 of ice time last night was a boon for Twitter and fodder for Don Cherry, but his slashing penalty just added fuel to the fire as everyone on the net piled on Vanek.

And an excellent look at what may be going on in Thomas Vanek’s head as well as Don Cherry’s super-hero tie.
The bottom line is that I never truly believed that Thomas Vanek was all that to begin with. He has talent, but he uses it when he wants to and perhaps that all important “willingness to compete” is just not there. Will he get his price in free agency? Sure he will. Because there is always someone willing to overpay based on an agents sales capability.
