As if by Wizardry, after I did the Islanders September calendar yesterday, the Islanders Group Loop sent out their Group Promotional nights list. Some of them are interesting for sure
Mon, 10/12: Kids Home Opener, a 2 pm game against the Kings.
Sat, 10/17: Breast Cancer Awareness Night & Union Night 7 pm against the Sharks. (Was it really necessary to lump these two together? Isn't breast cancer awareness big enough to have it's OWN night?)
Wed 10/28: Hockey Fights Night 7 pm against the Rangers. Okay, it's really Hockey fights Cancer Night, but you know it's going to turn into a melee.
Sat 11/7: Military Night & Suffolk County Scout Skate. 7pm against the Thrashers. I loved Military night last year. Those were the best hats ever.
Wed 11/25: Soccer Appreciation Night 7 pm against the Flyers. You have GOT to be kidding me! Soccer appreciation? If I get down further on this list and find "Curling Appreciation Night" I'm going to puke.
Fri 11/27: YMCA Day 2 pm against the Penguins. Everyone get your Village People costumes out. Come on.... let's go.
Sat 12/12: Hanukkah Night & Nassau County Scout Skate 7 pm against the Bruins. (No comment.)
Sat 12/19: Teddy Bear Toss/Toys for Tots 7 pm against Montreal. Toys for Tots, always a worthy cause around the holidays.
Sun 12/27: Nassau county Red Cross Night 5 pm against the Flyers. They'll be giving blood on the ice for sure.
Tues 1/12: Teacher's Appreciation Night against Detroit. Don't bring teacher an apple, bring them to the game.
Sat 1/16: Autism Awareness Night 7 pm against the Sabres. Last year Darryl Strawberry was the guest of honor.
Mon 1/18: Lighthouse Tournament & Literacy Day 2 pm against New Jersey. Or better known as "take the kids to the rink day"
Sat 1/23: Camp Reunion Day 7pm vs the Devils. I have no idea what this is. But there's one even better.
Tue 1/26: Chinese Student Night 7 pm vs. the Washington Caps. (Insert rude comment here.)
Sat 2/6: Faith Night 7pm vs. the Hurricanes. This will be the night we'll have to have "Faith" in the team because we'll know where we stand regarding the playoffs.
Sat 2/13: Girl Scout Day 2pm vs Tampa Bay. Marty St. Louis will be delivering Girl Scout cookies in the 100s. And I'm kidding of course.
Sun 2/14: Valentine's Day 5 pm vs. Ottawa. My anniversary. They're screwing me up with that time though. Guess I'll be having a late dinner or a late lunch. Or maybe I'll just watch the game from the comfort of my couch drinking champagne and eating lobster.
Sat 3/6: Karate Day 2 pm vs Boston I'm telling you, we're getting dangerously close to "Curling Day."
Thur 3/11: Lacrosse Day 7 pm vs the Blues. This is getting out of hand now.
Sat 3/13: Firefighter/EMT/Police Appreciation Night 7 pm vs. New Jersey. Better. If we can keep the Cops away from the Firemen in the stands.
Thur 3/25: Greek College Life Night 7 pm vs. Calgary. Toga! Toga! Toga!
Thur 4/1: Union Night II 7 pm vs. Flyers You will recognize them by the picket lines outside the coliseum.
Sat 4/3: Little League Day 2 pm vs. Senators Bring the little sluggers to the game, leave the bats at home.
Tues 4/6: French Student Night 7 pm vs. Canadiens Prepare to be snubbed with an accent.
Sun 4/11: Fan Appreciation Day 5 pm vs. the Penguins
I wish they did the Hockey & High Heels Night again, but this time, do it the RIGHT way. There are clubs that do this the right way. The Islanders should follow since there are so many female fans.
But there you have it. The Group Promotional Night list. Nope, I can't make this stuff up.
