Flat Again, Isles Downed by Flyers

They ran out of time.

Visnovsky should have shot instead of passing to Streit in the last four seconds of the third period with the Flyers leading by one goal.

It was an uneventful game. Actually, it was a little on the boring side. It’s the first regulation loss they have had this month.

Poulin played very well, considering how long it’s been since the last time he was in net. It was a tough game for the Isles, they didn’t play well at all for much of the game. “I felt really good today, from the first minute to the last.” said Poulin to Peter Ruttgaizer in the post game.

Jack, “We were hoping to not have a letdown. We responded after the first, but there’s no reason we should have come out as flat as we were. There’s a lot of things we talked about after the first. But it comes down to special teams. You’re not going to win a game without them.” The Isles only had one power play opportunity.

“You’re not going to play well every night…” but Jack was happy with the Aucoin line. Even though he won only three of eight face offs.

While Jack doesn’t like to discuss his goaltenders, he did say a few things about Kevin Poulin. “I thought he was strong. He made some big saves. He kept us right were we had to be. He was aggressive. He gave us a chance and that’s all you can ask of a guy.” Wow, that’s actually a lot of things to say. Poulin made 28 saves on 30 shots.

Jack will have a staff meeting to see who will play tomorrow in Buffalo and see if there are any changes that need to be made. The biggest change will be that Nabokov will be in net.

The one remaining game isn’t meaningless. They need to win that one so they can be confident heading into the playoffs.

Even with the loss, John Tavares was the third star of the game behind Lauridson and Giroux.

Mark Streit led the Isles with 25:50 in ice time and three give aways. Matt Martin added six hits to his count.

Matt Martin was visibly upset with their performance. “We’re disappointed in ourselves for sure. We came out flat again tonight. We need to be better. It really doesn’t mean anything. We want to go into the playoffs playing good hockey. We have one game to correct it. You have ups and downs during the season. There are things we have to correct. We have to focus on the game tomorrow and get back on track. We played well on the road, just the last few games we’ve been coming out flat. We’ve got Buffalo tomorrow, we’ve gotta get back at it.”
