Bitten at the Shark Tank

That 10:30 start is a killer for someone who gets up at 6 am daily. I made it to the second period before I started to drift in and out of sleep. I dreamt of a better outcome.

So, is the magic gone? That magic that started the Isles season that made us all believe THIS -- THIS is the year? With healthy defense pairings in the line-up, it was a good test. But sadly, it was a test that ended with a less than passing grade as the Isles ended with a 3 - 1 loss.

When we started this season, we all said the coaching staff would be on a very short leash. This morning, I’m wondering if that leash just got a little shorter.

Matt C ‏@mofunky77 How can the #Isles not be able to score more than 1 goal the last 6 periods with the talent they have? Embarrassing Capuano should be nervous

Daniel Friedman ‏@DFriedmanOnNYI The players took a step forward tonight (offense aside). The coaching staff did not. Put up or shut up time. #Isles

Jeff Capellini ‏@GreenLanternJet If the team goes on an extended slide, Capuano will get fired, but that timetable is by no means dictated by damaged fans. Sorry. #Isles

Michele Catalano ‏@inthefade I'm just saying, we're only a couple of games into an 80 game season. Maybe we shouldn't storm the castle yet. #isles

Rob Patchell ‏@RobPatch29 Hopefully this is just a little rough patch for the #Isles. Gotta win Wednesday.

So, if we add these three games to the other two games the Isles lost, we’re now at five games down. That’s ten points lost with a tough schedule. Of course no team is going to go 82 and 0, but how many can the Isles lose before they don’t have that hope of making the post season?

“Gotta win Wednesday” is an understatement.

Alan Hahn ‏@alanhahn Hoped for 5 points on this trip for #Isles. Now need to finish 2-0-1 with stops in Anaheim, LA and Phoenix, to get that. #JustKeepSwimming

When Alan Hahn, ex Newsday Isles beat reporter takes a moment from his NBA responsibilities to put his two cents in on the Isles -- you know things are getting desperate.

Ed O. ‏@Ed_OM_ John Tavares has looked very off his game the last few nights. #isles

But we know this team can win without their Captain being on his game. Look at the beginning of the season? Goals were coming from every line. There’s talent on this team beyond Tavares.

Goaltending? Halak didn’t look bad last night so we can’t pin this loss of two points on him.

Let’s see what Jack Capuano had to say about it all:

When it came to Halak Capuano said “He made some big saves, he gave us a chance to win. That’s all you can ask of your goaltender. He played very well.”

The problem is they haven’t been able to score. “We did a good job. We had many chances. We just couldn’t put the puck in the net. We gotta find a way to score more than one goal.”

Travis Hamonic missed changing the game by ¼ inch when he hit the crossbar. But according to Jack it was his penalty kill let really them down. “We had the momentum. We give up that power play goal and they’re right back in it. We have to find a way to secure that.”

He also didn’t see much of a difference in play when he shuffled the lines around looking for a spark, so they’re back to the drawing board before their next game on Wednesday.

(It helps when word actually saves the edited copy of your work and doesn't revert to the one with errors. Thank you Dell Inspiron mini on it's last legs.)
