Wild Sign Winnik

After much speculation Chuck Fletcher has signed Daniel Winnik to a one year $660k deal.

By submitting the final roster to the league yesterday, including Zach Parise even though he is injured and will not travel with the team for either of their first two games, it allowed Fletcher more time to figure out Zach's lineup replacement.

The hope all along was to get Winnik signed, but there was interest from a few other teams, creating speculation that he may possibly sign elsewhere.

The Wild cap situation is going to be an issue all season, and with this signing the team is right up against the cap. There may be a game in the not too distant future where the Wild are forced to dress 11 forwards if injuries begin to mount.

Winnik is a good signing for sure and his speed and penalty killing will be welcome additions, to go along with his experience.

Tonight it all begins with the opening of the NHL season with four games on tap. The Wild must wait one more day of course, when they will visit the Red Wings and officially open Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.

Hockey is back!
