Wild Moving Up, But Is There A Deal Ahead?

Six of six possible points on the road trip is a great trip for the Wild and has them in 3rd place alone in the Central. The once struggling Wild on the road have now won four in a row away from the friendly confines of the Xcel Energy Center and 6 of their last 8 outside the State of Hockey.

They just 6 points out of 2nd and 8 out of 1st, not too bad for a team that has had it's share of inconsistency for most of the season.

The one thing that has been consistent though has been their ability to minimize losing streaks. That is a necessary characteristic of successful playoff teams.

Now with the trade deadline coming fast and furious is Chuck Fletcher going to look to make any moves to give his team some more depth or possibly a key role player?

It has been well documented that Marc Bergevin and Scott Mellanby have been in attendance at recent Wild games so of course the speculation is Galchenyuk or Pacioretty rumors swirl. To me Pacioretty instantly makes the Wild a different team and moves them up into at least a potential contender.

Word is the Plekanec is not in the Montreal lineup today ahead of the deadline.

I still would like to see him try to grab a young player that is caught in a numbers game in his current situation. Kasperi Kapanen is the guy I would love to see him figure out a way to pry loose from Toronto. Kapanen has not been given much of a chance with the Leafs and he has intangibles that make him very attractive, but especially come playoff time.

Kapanen has big game pedigree and the ability to raise his compete level the bigger the game is. Fletcher would need to get creative to make this happen as the Leafs would be looking for a piece or two that will make an immediate impact this year, so a third team would need to be part of the mix. After that Pittsburgh, Ottawa, Vegas deal yesterday though, there are options available.

The Wild need something, not a whole lot, but a tweak. They are not as good as their recent record might indicate, nor as inconsistent as they have been for much of the season. They are talented enough to win some playoff series, but not quite strong enough all the way around to make a deep run.

Time is ticking, will Fletcher sit this one out, relying on the recent success of his team to continue?
