After sitting out the first two rounds of the draft with the Wild having no 1st or 2nd round picks, the first Wild selection is in, Ivan Lodnia.

Lodnia is a 5'10" right winger from. California, played his junior hockey with the Erie Otters of the OHL. He is one of the youngest players in the draft, making this year's draft by just 15 days.

The scouting reports are a strong skilked skater, but not the fastest. Scored 24 goals and 56 points in 66 games this season in Erie. Lodnia had his offensive role diminished late in the season where he was used primarily in a shut down role after scoring 38 points in his first 37 games.

In the 4th round the Wild selected Mason Shaw a play making center , who had 67assists and 94 points with Medicine Hat of the WHL, and added 12 assists in 11 playoff games this past season.

With their second pick in the 4th round the Wild took another center Bryce Misely who is another if the younger players in this draft as he doesn't turn 18 until September 5. Misely scored 26 goals and 62 points in 46 playing Canadien Junior A for Oakville of the Ontario Junior Hockey League.

So no major deal from Fletcher does not mean that he failed. There was a lot of talk surrounding the Wild defense and there still may be a deal forthcoming, but kudos to Fletcher for not making a deal for the sake of making a deal.

The Wild do not have to trade a defenseman, they need to make the team better. That may require moving a defenseman, but not for the sake of a trade, it needs to be a deal that is right for the Wild.

Fletcher is working to make this Wild team better and when he makes his next moce, rest assured it is a move to take this team to the next level.
