The Wild head across the river to Brooklyn tonight to face the Islanders after a stinging 2-1 overtime loss last night in New Jersey. New York took the two meetings from Minnesota last season, with both games being played during the Wild's roller coaster month of February.

The first game in Brooklyn, a 5-3 Islander win, was right smack in the middle of the free fall the Wild took just prior to Mike Yeo being relieved of his coaching duties. The second came on the heels of the Stadium Series outdoor game, in which the Wild won decisively 6-1 over the then defending Stanley Cup champion, Blackhawks. The Wild had seemingly turned the corner reeling off four straight wins heading into the rematch with New York, in St. Paul. The Islanders took the game fairly easily 4-1.

Minnesota natives Nick Leddy, Anders Lee, and Brock Nelson always seem to raise their level of play when they play the Wild. The trio combined for 2 goals and 3 assists in last year's Wild-Islanders match-ups.

The Wild really need to get going early this evening as their first periods have been dreadful in the first five games of the season. Last night the Wild took just three shots and are averaging just five first period shots over those five games.

Minnesota dominated a lot of last night's game in New Jersey, but the only tally came off the stick of Joel Eriksson's Ek, who was making his NHL debut. The kid played well finishing with three shots on goal in 9:36 of playing time, and of course his first National Hockey League goal.

Expect Darcy Kuemper to make his second start of the season for the Wild.

Wild need a bounce back after last night, yes they got a valuable road point, but that one felt like a loss.
