What Does A Strong Show from Team N. America Mean?

It is no secret that the NHL is a young man's league, and team North America has the most intriguing collection of young talent. With Connor McDavid, Jack Eichel, Johnny Gaudreau, Auston Matthews, Aaron Ekblad, and Stanley Cup champion goalie Matt Murray, Team North America is a legitimate contender. The NHL has a very bright future led by many of these star and soon to be star players, that will be on full display at the World Cup of Hockey 2016.

The salary cap and the 3 year entry level deals that are extremely cap friendly give teams tremendous value at bargain basement rates.

NHL General Managers have the difficult task of managing the cap 24/7 and with the current cap situation are GMs more likely to let a veteran sign elsewhere for longer term than to keep a known commodity with the risk of declining production as the player ages.

Every league is a copycat league with teams following in the footsteps of the most recent champions. The Penguins just won the Cup with a rookie goalie, the Blackhawks have won 3 Cups with the same core star players but were not afraid to let key contributors go after each Cup in order to keep that core intact.

The salary cap is not at all fan friendly but it is a fact of pro sports life. Fans are reduced to rooting for the laundry, but it does create a lot of talk, rumors, and excitement.
