Zach Parise hit the ice yesterday, for his 1st day of train camp with his Wild teammates. He won't play tonight or tomorrow though. The good news is Zach is getting ready for the regular season, the bad news of course is his back issues.

Back issues are something that really never go away. Parise is especially miffed after having a great summer of preparation and feeling very healthy as camp approached. The timing of the injury isn't good, as it came just before training camp after a season in which Zach played in just 69 Wild games. Many of those 69 games Parise was at less than 100 percent.

Parise was looking forward to putting last season behind him and hitting the ice completely healthy and ready to take this Wild team to new heights in 2017-18.

Parise plays the game hard and at 100 percent shift in shift out. He nevery takes a shift off nor does he shy away from going to the dirty areas to create a turnover or take a hit to make a play. That is Zach Parise and that's his game.

Bruce Boudreau will have to pick his spots on how he uses and gets Parise his rest this season.

This evening the Wild host the Avalanche in another hoke and home with a Central Division foe. The Wild will travel to Colorado tomorrow.

We will see more of the regulars again which should be more if a theme as the preseason continues and the camp roster reduces.

Mikko Koivu, Mikael Granlund, Eric Staal, Ryan Suter, and Devan Dubnyk will all play their first preseason games tonight.

Ryan Murphy will be playing again tonight, joining Tyler Ennis as the only Wild skaters to dress in each of the first three preseason tilts.

The Wild defense is where the biggest competition in camp with the 5th, 6th and 7th D positions open. Murphy, the former 12th overall draft pick in 2011, has the skills to play in the NHL and has 151 games of NHL experience with Carolina.

The battle for the backup goalie position is strong as well, and Alex Stalock did his part Thursday with a 21 save shutout of the Jets, after Niklas Svedberg played well in his first game action stopping 22 of 24 Jets shots in the two periods he played in Winnipeg on Monday.

We are getting closer and the intensity should start to ramp up. October is coming!

It's Always Hockey Day in the State of Hockey!
