It's Heating Up

Yesterday saw some major activity on the trade front with the Weber/Subban and Hall/Larsson deals as well as the biggest free agent Stamkos re-signing with the Lightning. So what does that mean as we move into the final hours heading up to tomorrow's free agent signing period opening at noon eastern time?

Jason Zucker is signed for 2 years at 2 million/year which is a good deal for both sides.

It is confirmed that the Wild and Eric Staal have had talks and there is mutual interest. With Staal's declining numbers over the past three seasons, term and dollars should not be very high. I tend to discount Staal's numbers with the Rangers as he was mainly used on the wing. He could be a very good fit if the price is right. But let's be honest signing Eric Staal is not going to get anyone too excited in the State of Hockey.

The Wild are in the entertainment business, but here in Minnesota hockey does not have to be sold. It is a fabric of the culture here, winning is what brings excitement. The Wild have made the playoffs four straight seasons, but that isn't good enough. The commitment to winning is apparent with the hiring of Bruce Boudreau, now Fletcher must step up and give him the pieces to take them to the next level.

The time is now for the Wild and the window is open, but not for long. Time to strike Chuck Fletcher.

Let's go Wild!
