Hawks Make a Move, Do Wild Follow?

With yesterday's deal that saw the Blackhawks trade a 3rd round pick to Detroit for 24 year old right winger Tomas Jurco, do the Wild feel the pressure to make a move as well?

Jurco has been an offensive talent in the AHL, but that has not translated to the NHL for him as of yet. The new surroundings may be just what the young Czech winger needs to tap into his potential. But either way the Hawks got better with the deal adding to their forward depth once again.

So now what do the Wild do as the deadline gets closer and closer? What do they need and who is out there that will help push this team to new heights?

One of the names being linked to the Wild was Patrick Eaves, but you can take his name off the list, as he was dealt by Dallas to Anaheim yesterday as well, for a conditional 2nd round draft pick.

The Wild have shown that they can play and compete with any team this season, and they can play it 1-0 or 5-4, so what is missing? That is the million dollar question for sure.

The key to any deal of course is to not upset the chemistry that has been established. That cannot be taken lightly at all, because the difference between winning and losing is so slim, and teams that work together are the ones that win in the end.

So what is it that will make this Wild team the team to beat in the West when the games count for real?

The obvious is a depth forward and preferably a big center that is strong in the faceoff circle, ie Brian Boyle.

Another area of concern is a depth defenseman who can step into the number 6 role if need be or to push one of the incumbents to step up their own game.

But I believe the Wild need to add a player with an edge to his game. A player that makes his opponents have to earn every inch of ice they get. Chris Stewart has been great playing this role, but it is difficult to place all that on one single player. Getting Stew some help could be the final piece that puts the Wild in the driver seat come Spring time.

A guy like Alex Burrows might be just that type of player, but it would require the Canucks eating a healthy portion of his contract. He is a hated player around the NHL and for good reason, but those players also bring the edge necessary to win in the playoffs.
