Ennis Could Be a Diamond

With the Wild roster appearing set as training camp approaches the talk of course shifts to what will lines look like and what new faces if any will crack the lineup?

With Matt Cullen signed the Wild have secured their 4th line center, so where will the battles be in camp?

The guy that intrigues me is not a player that will be fighting for a roster spot, but a player that for sure will be looking to establish himself as a top six forward.

That player is Tyler Ennis. Ennis has been slowed for the majority of the last two seasons due to injuries. But much like Zach Parise, Ennis is healthy heading into camp and at 27, 28 on October 6th, he is in the prime of his career.

Ennis has three, twenty goal seasons under his belt, largely playing for a not very talented Sabres club. Ennis's first three seasons with Buffalo he had 92 points in 148 games, and the Sabres were a playoff team two of those three seasons and just missed in the third.

The next three seasons saw Ennis tally 10 goals and 31 points in the lockout shortened season of 2013, and 21 and 20 goal campaigns in 2014 and 2015 while the Sabres 58 games below .500.

So the fact is that Ennis can play and produce in this league. The change of scenery should be just what he needs to jump start his career in Minnesota, with a team that has high expectations.

Being reunited with his childhood buddy, Jared Spurgeon, won't hurt either.

A lot has been said that Ennis coming to the Wild was just a byproduct of the Fletcher unloading the Pominville contract, combined with the Sabres being down on Ennis due to his injury woes of the past two seasons.

The fact is that buying low and selling high is always the best formula. Ennis of course makes $4.6 million so he is not exactly cheap, but he can surely deliver and make that money look well spent.

Looking forward to camp competition.
