Matt Cullen has won three Stanley Cups with two of those of course being won the last two seasons with Pittsburgh.

Cullen at 40 contemplated retirement of course, but the opportunity to play back home and a chance at another Cup with his native Minnesota Wild won out.

Unlike Cullen's first stint with the Wild, from 2010-2013, where the Minnesota was working toward being a playoff team, accomplishing that only in Cullen's final year with the club. This time around Cullen comes home to be an integral piece of the chemistry that hopefully leads this current Wild team to a deep playoff run.

The Wild have lacked the type of off ice leadership that it takes to bring a collective group of talent together to battle as one for each other.

Talent is only half the battle when it comes to playoff wins. Yes, a team needs talent, but in order to really accomplish big things, leadership combined with talent wins out in the end.

Matt Cullen was instrumental in his first go round with the Wild in helping the club establish itself as a playoff contender. So now he returns, for most likely his swan song, to be a key voice of winning and leadership to the young Wild nucleus.

Wild Notes: Michael Russo has reported that Mikael Granlund has rolled his ankle while training in Finland. It is expected that he will be unable to participate in offseason training for two weeks.
