You know when you have one of those days where you step outside and the weather is beautiful, you're feeling good, and everything seems right in the world? Well, today it happened to me upon learning Jacques Martin is off to be Montreal's coach. Let me just say that I apologize to all Canadiens fans in advance for what is sure to be disappointment. Such a historic franchise does not deserve the mundane, monotonous, game-has-passed-him-by, boring style of play that is to come.

From a Panther fan perspective this move is four years late, but hey, better late than never right?

The problem remains, however, that the same people that hired Martin, and Mike Keenan TWICE (go ahead and hire him again and see an unprecedented fan exodus) are in charge of hiring the new GM. Since Assisstant General Manager Randy Sexton is a Jacques Martin clone, I would hope he is shown the door in favor of a completely fresh start for this role in the organization.

I will give the front office credit, Jacques Martin included, for making what seems to be a shockingly good hire in coach Peter DeBoer. He really did an amazing job with an average roster.

It's such a shame that this organization has reached the point where such a decision regarding a new GM is so huge, so critical, so vital. And yet Panther fans have that look of a deer in headlights right now because they have to feel elated one of the key negatives in the organization is now gone, but that another frighteningly bad decision is on the way.

Fans of this organization are in the midst of a stunningly bad stretch of futility that rivals such bad words as the L.A. Clippers and Detroit Lions, amongst others. A major shot in the arm is needed from a new GM that is going to be aggressive, acquire major offense, and get rolling in the right direction.

My question then to you is, who is that person? Who is out there that is smart and savvy enough to put this puzzle together?

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to your input.

UPDATE: For any Montreal fans that had hope that Jay Bouwmeester might be in play for them, the news today will destroy that possibility completely. In my opinion, JM started Jay leaving for nothing in motion right after the lockout. Jay would never want to play for him again, and you can't blame him for that.
