Cats Changing Their Image Whether Fans Like It Or Not

Many of Florida's passionate fans were very disappointed with the new jersey and logo release June 2nd. Some were downright hostile.

No doubt most human beings hate change, and there was no lack of that sentiment last week.

However, once the jerseys were released and players were on stage wearing them, I must admit I like them. In time I think the majority of fans will as well.

Most Panther fans think the original logo is one of the best in sports. I strongly disagree. In addition to that, it was very difficult to reproduce. While it isn't the best, it certainly was BY FAR the most complicated logo to reproduce for jerseys, hats, shirts, etc.

So from a simplicity standpoint it makes sense, but there is something else at play here.

Owner Vinnie Viola is a military man. A West Point man. As someone who is now providing the organizational stability this franchise has lacked practically since its inception, he wanted to put his stamp on the team.

In that respect, he hit a home run. The jerseys have a military feel, while most think it looks more like a soccer logo. Again, I disagree.

But what the new digs bring to the table is a team mindset. No one person is more important than the squad. Certainly the Panthers started playing like that this year and have shown the league they will be contenders for years to come.

Teams and companies rebrand all the time. There will always be criticism from those who are unwilling to think outside the box and shake things up. It is from such change that many great things are born.

This will be no different.

Like anything that breaks a tradition and look that people have grown fond of, it will take time. Probably not that long.

The only thing I dislike about the new unis is the resemblance to Ottawa. Other than that, fans should be happy with it. It could have been A LOT worse.
