Penguins Sign Goaltender Pechurski to One Game Tryout...

The injury bug has crept out of hiding during this five game road trip and attacked the Penguins goaltenders. First it was Brent Johnson that was felled by a lower body injury...then Marc Andre Fleury fractured a finger against the Edmonton Oilers.

The team recalled Wilkes Barre-Scranton goaltender John Curry after the Johnson injury, but do not have a ton depth in goal beyond that. Which has forced Ray Shero to pick up a goaltender for one day.

The Penguins have signed Tri-City Americans goaltender, Alexander Pechurski, to a one day professional try-out. Pechurski, who was drafted by Pittsburgh in the fifth round (150th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, will return to Tri-City following the Penguins’ Saturday game against the Vancouver Canucks.

The Magnitogorsk, Russia native played two seasons in the Under-18 World Championships for Russia. In five contests in 2007-08, Pechurski (6-foot, 187 pounds) recorded a 4-1 mark with a 3.06 goals-against average.

I would assume that Pechurski would serve as the back-up to John Curry tonight in Vancouver.
