The Canadiens have signed defenseman Mark Streit to a one year, $700,000 deal that should effectively end the speculation of Andrei Markov returning to the Canadiens next season.

The 39-year-old, left-shot Streit won a Stanley Cup last season with the Penguins after posting two assists in three playoff games. The Swiss-born Streit had six goals and 27 points in a 68-game regular season split between the Penguins and Flyers.

Streit, who played for the Canadiens from 2005 to 2008, with 25 goals and 109 points in 205 games with the Habs, will definitely be quarterbacking the PP Unit this fall.
