Just a few quick news headlines from Thrasherville...

A couple of nights ago we learned that Manny Legace has accepted an invite to Atlanta’s training camp…well today we learned of a couple more.

Former Thrashers defenseman Mark Popovic will have a chance to display his talents when camp gets underway in Duluth’s Ice Forum next Saturday. Pops was in the Thrashers’ system between 2005 and 2008, playing both at the NHL level and with the Chicago Wolves of the AHL. In 44 total games here, he produced 3 assists, had 10 PIM and was -8. In 135 games with the Wolves he scored 28 goals and 50 assists. In 15 AHL playoff games he had 3 goals, 6 assists and 4 PIM.

He played last season with St. Petersburg SKA where in 58 games he compiled 40 PIM, 8 goals and 22 total points. He was held scoreless in 3 playoff games in Russia but was called for one minor penalty.

Also receiving an invite to go camping with the Thrashers is forward Dan Fritsche. His first four seasons in the NHL were with Columbus while last year was split between the Rangers and Minnesota. In 257 total games he has 34 goals and 42 assists, 103 penalty minutes and is a –19.

Recently drafted goalie Ed Pasquale will not be participating in next week’s prospects tournament in Traverse City, Michigan due to illness. In his place will be Josh Unice.

Lastly, former Atlanta forward Eric Perrin has signed with Avangard of the KHL. Perrin became an unrestricted free agent this summer after playing in Atlanta for the past two seasons.
