Today the Atlanta Thrashers announced that centerman Marty Reasoner has re-signed with the team for two more seasons. Reasoner was brought in last summer, primarily to replace the departing Bobby Holik. He more than filled the void, scoring a career-high 14 points and playing solid, responsible hockey in Atlanta's defensive zone.

"He's a very smart player", Thrashers GM Don Waddell said of the 32-year old Reasoner, "We can play him in all situations. He's very smart defensively and he's an excellent penalty-killer".

Marty stands out as one of the better off-season Thrasherville acquisitions in recent years. From the beginning of the season it was clear that he was a hard worker and very dependable on the ice... and he soon became a favorite with not only the fans but with his teammates as well. So much so that they awarded him their Player's-Player award at the end of last season.

And speaking as a fan…I could not be more thrilled of hearing this news. I’m also hoping that Reasoner…a 10-year veteran in the league…will wear an “A” for the Thrashers this year.

"It's pretty obvious it's a team on the rise", Reasoner said of the Thrashers according to Ben Wright of the team's website. "I think in a lot of ways it's a place where you can come in and have some success. It's a great place to play, there's good support, it's a great organization, and there's a coaching staff that's going to support the players".

The signing follows news just last week that defender Anssi Salmela, who was acquired from New Jersey in the Nic Havelid trade, was also re-signed.

All in all...not a bad week for Waddell and the Thrashers.

UPDATE - June 8, 2009 9:14 pm

The word I'm getting now is that the Reasoner deal pays him $1.1 mil this season and $1.2 next season. This is a bargain...especially when you consider the money Holik was paid.
