A couple of item to discuss coming from Thrasherville today…
First off, it looks as though defender
Boris Valabik has been given a qualifying offer from the team. Last week the Thrashers made offers to pending RFAs
Kari Lehtonen,
Jim Slater and
Colby Armstrong.
Other players in the system that have been tendered qualifying offers are Jordan LaVallee,
Scott Lehman and
Grant Lewis.
Atlanta has not extended a Q.O. to goalkeeper
Dan Turple or
Chris Thorburn, however the team will likely sign Thorburn as the two parties are currently speaking about a contract.
Turple’s precense in the pipeline may have been replaced by the newly drafted Edward Pasquele.
So…at this juncture, the Thrashers UFA/RFA situation looks like this…
Thrashers Restricted Free Agents Playing in Atlanta
Colby Armstrong
Kari Lehtonen
Jim Slater
Chris Thorburn
Boris Valabik
Thrashers Restricted Free Agents Playing with the Wolves
Scott Lehman

Dan Turple – (No Q.O.)

And In Other News…
In the world of wild-eyed speculation…
I’ve seen reports…OK, rumors… that would add Atlanta to the list of possible future teams for
Mike Cammalleri. Interesting, to say the least.
Personally, I thought the Flames were going to do everything they could to keep him in Calgary and seek to deal with cap issues elsewhere...but with J-Bo in their cupboard now, probably not. So, since we are in the “what if” phase of the offseason anyway, I’ll play along.
IF Don Waddell were to bring in Cammalleri…then here is a possible lineup that could be iced by the Thrashers.
Kovy – Cammalleri – Little
Kozlov – Peverley – Armstrong
Stuart/Crabb* – Reasoner – Kane
Boulton – Slater – Thorburn
*
Crabb is an RFA Cat. VI
Obviously, the team’s future plans for Kane is not as a third-liner…Waddell told him Friday night he’s looking forward to seeing him play with Kovy. But this is a good way to work the kid in and allow him to progress his way up the lineup, IMHO.
Adding Cammalleri to the front line with Kovy would be very nice indeed…and it would probably mean that
Todd White would be packaged up with goalie
Ondrej Pavelec and/or prospects or picks in attempt to land a top-four blueliner.
