Star Gazing Quick Hits
* Veteran forward Rich Peverley will miss the preseason after being diagnosed with atrial fibrillation and undergoing a heart procedure to correct the arrhythmia. The irregular heartbeat was discovered when Peverley took his pre-camp physical on Wednesday. After referral to heart specialists and more tests, the procedure was performed yesterday.
It is possible that the player could be ready for the start of the regular season or he could miss a couple games in early October. Peverley, who will soon be able to skate again but not cleared for contact in practice for a few weeks, came over the Stars in deal that also brought Tyler Seguin to Dallas and sent Loui Eriksson to the Bruins.
* The Stars have been running intrasquad scrimmages each day during their training camp. Tomorrow at 10 a.m. CDT, the club will conduct a final scrimmage at the Fort Worth Convention Center. Reportedly, the line combinations that new head coach Lindy Ruff will use in tomorrow's scrimmage will be pretty close to the lineup that will appear in the preseason opener on Sunday against the St. Louis Blues. That will include Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin on the top line with Cody Eakin, Alex Chiasson and Ray Whitney on the second line.
Sunday's preseason opener at the American Airlines Center starts at 6 p.m.
