According to multiple media reports on Saturday, Dallas Stars top line center Tyler Seguin has a hairline fracture is his heel suffered in Team Canada's September 9 World Cup of Hockey pre-tournament game against Team USA. After withdrawing from the World Cup roster on Wednesday, Seguin traveled to Dallas for medical evaluation by Stars team doctors.
Dallas general manager Jim Nill announced the bad news on Saturday: an MRI revealed a hairline fracture. The player will miss the start of the Stars' training camp and then be re-evaluated on a week-to-week basis. Prior the detection of the fracture, Nill told the media that Seguin had been trying but was unable to play through the injury. The GM estimated Seguin was skating at only about 50 to 60 percent of his normal ability.
On August 23, Stars captain Jamie Benn withdrew from the Team Canada roster. He underwent core muscle surgery in the offseason -- something that is hardly unusual nowadays around the league -- and made a decision that his focus needed to be on being ready for the NHL season rather than risking an expedited return to play in the World Cup.
