1) On the first day of training camp last year, new head coach Dave Hakstol ran things at an ultra-high tempo. The intensity was high and there was a lot of contact, most notably when then-Flyers defenseman Luke Schenn picked up and body slammed Michael Raffl to the ice during a drill. In 2016, the pace was much more that of a typical "work day" at the rink. The tempo was fine, and the timing of execution was one of players trying to shake off the rust. Of course, the absence of seven regulars due to the World Cup of Hockey made it a not-quite-typical day at the rink but there were enough NHL roster players -- such as Wayne Simmonds, Brayden Schenn and the quickly rehabbing Radko Gudas -- on the ice to provide something of a sense of normalcy until the others arrive.

2) If the first day of camp was any indication -- which is a big assumption to make -- the initial plan for Scott Laughton this season may be to keep him exclusively on the wing (barring injuries). He took all of his reps on left wing on Friday, mostly with Nick Cousins and Dale Weise on his line.
