Quick Hits: July 29

1) Team USA will hold its World Junior Championship Evaluation Camp in Plymouth, Michigan from July 30 to August 6. There are several Flyers-related connections of note. Forward Tanner Laczynski, drafted by the Flyers in the sixth round of the 2016 NHL Draft, will play on the Team USA Blue squad. The Team Blue squad will be coached by Grant Potulny (older brother of former Flyers player Ryan Potulny) with former Flyers player Mike Knuble as an assistant.

Before a combined Team USA squad participates in the main round-robin mini tournament with Canada, Sweden and Finland starting on August 3, the Team USA Blue and Team USA White squads will play one game apiece against Sweden and Finland. Flyers prospects David Bernhard and Felix Sandström will play for Sweden.

2) Today in Flyers History: July 29

1990: The Flyers sign goaltending coach Bernie Parent to a contract extension.

1991: The Flyers trade the rights of forward Mike Bullard to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a 1993 third-round pick (Vaclav Prospal).

1999: The Flyers re-sign forwards Mikael Renberg (one year) and Sandy McCarthy (one year) to contract extensions.

2005: The Flyers trade fan favorite enforcer Todd Fedoruk to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for a 2005 second-round pick (transferred to Phoenix, Pier-Olivier Pelletier). The same day, the Flyers sign goaltender Rejean Beauchemin to an entry-level NHL contract.

Flyers Alumni Birthday: Power forward Tye McGinn was born July 29, 1990.

2016 Flyers Alumni Fantasy Camp



The 2nd annual Flyers Alumni Fantasy Camp will be held Aug. 19 -22, 2016 in Atlantic City. The Alumni have assembled an excellent group of instructor/coaches this year, including Hockey Hall of Famers Bernie Parent and Mark Howe, along with the likes of Danny Briere and Flyers assistant coach Ian Laperriere.
