A season of dramatic progress came to an unfortunate ending for Flyers defense prospect Philippe Myers as he was injured on a knee-to-knee hit by Owen MacDonald in the 2016 Memorial Cup championship game. The Ontario Hockey League champion London Knights came back to defeat the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League titlist Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, 3-2, in overtime. The Huskies led 2-1 late in the third period.

Myers already appeared to be hobbling coming into the game. The top-pairing Huskies blueliner sat out the latter portion of the semifinal game against the Red Deer Rebels and his ice time was significantly reduced in the championship game even prior to the injury. He was in the handshake line at the end of the title game.
