Flyers at World Championships: Thursday Roundup

* Four Flyers-affiliated players will be in action today at the IIHF World Championships in Minsk, Belarus. Team Canada, featuring Brayden Schenn, Matt Read and Braydon Coburn will take on Denmark, featuring Phantoms defenseman Oliver Lauridsen. Having already been victimized by a massive upset in a shootout loss to France, the Canadians can ill-afford to take another underdog opponent too lightly.

* Flyers defenseman Erik Gustafsson has not been a standout for Tre Kronor thus far the way he was at last year's tournament but is still playing a prominent role on the Swedish defense corps. Today, Team Sweden takes on France.

* Phantoms forward Marcel Noebels and Team Germany are idle today. Yesterday, the Germans dropped a hard-fought 3-2 decision to Switzerland. Noebels did not figure in the scoring.

* Today is a travel day for me, as I head back to Texas until returning to the Philadelphia area for the NHL Draft and the Flyers' annual Development Camp in July. In tomorrow's blog, in addition to the daily World Championship roundup, I will talk about some prospects for the upcoming draft as well as the forwards in the Flyers' farm system. Beyond Scott Laughton and possibly Taylor Leier, it is not a pretty picture right now in terms of forwards who currently project as future NHL regulars.
