Today marks the first day former MVP Chris Pronger can officially sign a contract extension to take him beyond this season. Sources tell me he will not be signing an extension today with the Flyers. No word on any future contract negotiations with Philly.

Any teams out there looking to add a little muscle to the lineup have a few to pick from. Look for teams such as Toronto, Calgary, and the NYR to consider adding some toughness.

Brian McGrattan- I'm told this kid is in terriffic condition

Colton Orr who has apparently worn out his welcome in New York.

Andrew Peters- certainly tough, but you can make the case he lacks versatility and is too one dimensional.

Sources close to Martin Havlat tell me people should not completely read into him being in LA. There remains an outside chance he could still re-sign in Chicago. LA is the home base for Havlat's agent Allan Walsh who likes his top clients near by during the beginning stages of free agency.

Word is veteran D-man Mathieu Schneider is coming along very nicely after having extremely successful rotator cuff surgery by Dr. Steve Obrien in New York.

More to come,
