John Davidson has been elected into the Hockey Hall of Fame for his work broadcasting NHL games for more than 20 years before being hired as St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations. The former Rangers goaltender will receive the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award as part of the 2009 Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Congratulations are in order for Davidson who was the best NHL color Commentator going before taking the job in St. Louis

The Ottawa Senators are negotiating an extension with forward Chris Neil and should have a deal completed before July first when he is set to become an Unrestricted Free Agent. Ottawa has expressed a desire to re-sign Neil who wants to remain in Ottawa so the framework for a deal is obviously there.

The Blues are the leading candidate to sign Windsor Spitfires free agent D-man Rob Kwiet. There are three other teams expressing legitimate interest. Kwiet registered 67 points this season en route to a Memorial Cup Championship.

Sources close to the Dallas Stars say their financial troubles could crate issues meeting team payroll heading into the 2009-2010 season.

There has been very little talk between D-man Mike Komisarek and the Montreal Canadians to date. There is still plenty of time left to reach a deal with Komisarek who will become a UFA if no deal is reached before July first.

Things should get moving as the GM’s are gathered in Pittsburgh for their annual meetings.

Blues Clues!

The Blues still want to re-sign both B.J. Crombeen and Roman Polak before they shift their attention to potential UFA Keith Tkachuk.

Obviously Dave Checketts has created a PR splash by publicly expressing his desire to become the next Owner of the St. Louis Rams. Checketts has personally met with Rams Owner Chip Rosenbloom on numerous occasions including hosting Rosenbloom at the Staples Center late last season when the Blues battled the LA Kings.

If the Blues are going to trade for Chris Pronger they will likely need to find a way to move some money the other way. That could make things a little difficult for St. Louis. There are ways to get creative here and I will explain as we get closer to the draft.
