After triumphing of Team Russia at the Sochi Hockey Open against SKA who played in the final it was time for Gagarin cup silver medalists Metallurg Magnitogorsk to face-off against Team Canada to decide the exhibition tournaments bronze medal.

Both teams began the match scouting each other, not giving many chances to the opponent. Metallurg was the first to create anything but despite that Canada was the first to get on the score sheet after a goal from Mason Raymond who after a great passing play beat Metallurg's Koscheckin. Canada went to the penalty kill straight after but giving Metallurg less than desirable offensive time, and Justin Peters stopping the tiny amount of shots penalty was killed. Jeff Kinrade gave Metallurg another chance to use man advantage but that also went unused meaning Maples were up 1-0 after 20 minutes.

The start of the 2nd period was once again both sides scouting each other, exchanging some minor chances along the way but it didn't seem as the scoring was going to pick up, even though the pace of the game was much better. Brandon Buck ended up in the penalty box, forcing Canada to play a man short once again after unnecessary high-stick. Canada did a great job defending but the pressure was too much as Metallurg's Sergey Tereschenko blasted a one-timer past, Peters, game tied 1-1 at the mid-point of the game. Towards the end of the period, both sides exchanged penalties, scoring chances but not much came of it. Game tied after 40 minutes on the ice.

As the puck dropped for the 3rd period, both teams charged ahead to settle the score before the game turns into its final run. Team Canada went full force to make sure they were the ones to regain the lead but Kosheckin had none of it until Mason Raymond had to do his thing again, he skated behind the net and lifted the puck in from behind in a lacrosse style regaining the lead with his 2nd of the night.

Straight after Metallurg returned to the power play and started their push to get back in the game but Peters had none of it. Justin Azevedo finished in time to score an empty net goal. Metallurg challenged the goal but it was no good as they sealed a victory and secure 3rd place for team Canada.

Mason Raymond and Sergei Tereschenko were named players of the game.
