WAKE UP!

I was originally going to post this in a comment box to Adrian Dater's latest blog but it turned out to be so long, I decided to make a blog out of it.

Adrian's blog is a rant about how the Avs' management persists upon keeping us, the fans, in the dark about what they are doing and I have to simply say, if the people running the Avs are indeed reading this (doubtful), WAKE UP!!!

Now I like a little bit of secrecy with this team. I like how they come out of nowhere to announce signings or trades. But it has gone too far.

For instance, on the Avs' web page they have the headline "Third pick's the charm." It's an okay article to start with, talking about the success previous third round draft picks have had since they were drafted and the good things that can come out of drafting third.

HOWEVER, they totally ignored the fact that players like Ovechkin, Crosby, Fleury and the other half of the Penguins roster were ALSO selected 1st overall. They could have used some of it to show that sometimes the third overall pick turns out to be better than the first, as in the instance of the 2006 draft when Toews was taken third and Erik Johnson 1st. Without that context of who was picked around the third pick, it just becomes fluff.

The second part that I get really ticked over, is their internal operations. No, I don't really want to know who they're trading for nor what their accountants are doing but I would like to have them talk to us, the fans and the media, about how the season is looking (realistically), how it has gone and how it went, even if it was down the drain. I am sick of the management tying our broadcasters tongues deep inside their throat, attaching an Avotone (almost monotone) box to their throat, spewing the sugar-coated crap at us for and 82 game season. Stop guys, before we all become diabetics.

For heaven's sake, let them say, "hey we suck, we have sucked all year and we're sorry. We'll endeavor to do better." Doesn't that sound better than the man with a smile that's either been plastered, glued or taped on telling us everything is fine. Every time the broadcasters do this, I picture Kevin Bacon's character from "Animal House" during the parade. Everything is falling apart, chaos reigns and he's standing screaming "Stay calm. All is well." Please, treat us like real hockey fans, the hockey fans they have created, and be honest. Tell us you've played worse than Yankees losing 22-4. Tell us that, after turning in a performance that would make the Detroit Lions blush that it was bad. Tell us what you feel would make a good GM, who you are looking at and how far along in the process you are. Just simply, tell us the truth- I swear we, the fans, can handle it!

What will this do? It will create a sense or rapport with the Avs fans who stick with the team. Tell us that you had a bad year, that it is unacceptable and that you will put a better product on the ice next year for us, the paying customers. Stop treating us like children who don't know what's going on. The fans of this team know hockey. They know what's good hockey and what's bad. To feign ignorance, especially when the team has stunk this bad, is just plain insulting.

Am I alone or do the rest of you out there feel the same way? Does a(n) network/organization being open endear you more to them?

Musick notes

I raise my glass, tip my hat and give a round of applause to the St. Louis Blues and their incredible season. Here's hoping the next one is better still.

I am still sick of the double standard the league is creating when suspending players. Make one precedent for all types of players and stick to it. And make it progressive so that repeat offenders receive harsher punishments.

Thank you to all who have read and commented on my blogs. Because of all of you, I become a better writer with each blog.

Would some tech savvy person enlighten me as to how I might be able to post a video in my blog? I, in my rudimentary online content sessions, never learned how to do that
