While the hockey world still reels from the Philadelphia Flyers trading Jeff Carter and team captain Mike Richards to Columbus and Los Angeles respectively, rumors are circulating the Avs are about to jump into the waters.

Shortly after Richards was traded to the Kings for fifth overall pick Brayden Schenn and Wayne Simmonds, rumors started to creep up that the Kings were not done and that they were talking to the Avs regarding the services of center Paul Stastny.

It is no secret that the Avs are in need of a starting goalie and that that goalie is not Brian Elliott. Hence, one of the names to crop up coming back from the Kings is Jonathan Bernier.

Still out there is the rumor from last trade deadline of Stastny, T.J. Galiardi and the 11th overall pick for Bernier, Jack Johnson and Jarret Stoll.

There's also a rumor Bernier plus for Stastny. Maybe it's just the 11+ for Bernier. Then there's also the 11+ to Vancouver for Cory Schneider. The Leafs are also asking about Stastny but nothing is imminent. I can confirm that the 11 is in play and that the Avs are looking for a goalie. Stastny is being asked about but the Avs will truly have to be "wowed" by an offer to make a trade.

Just to set a baseline, I was told that if Carter to Columbus fell through, Columbus would have traded the 8, 38, Jakub Voracek and Derek Brassard for Stastny, Liles and Stoa.

Stastny has four years left with a $6.6 million dollar price tag, complete with a no-trade clause which, as of yet, he has not been asked to waive. Given that the Avs are currently $16 million under the cap floor, they would also have to bring some salary back to keep that floor within reach.

The Avs are testing the waters and throwing a few lines out but there is not guarantee of a trade: nothing is imminent.
