Is it the league vs. the Red Wings?

So it's set, or should I say reset. The Detroit Red Wings versus the Pittsburgh Penguins. Malkin and Crosby have taken their team back to the finals to face the Red Wings yet again.

My question isn't whether or not the Penguins will turn the tables this time. My question is whether it isn't the rest of the league versus the Wings.

If the Wings win, that'll be two cups in a row and 5 in the last 12 years. Even though they have been the Avs' rival for years, I have to give a round to them. They have transitioned very well from post-cap to pre-cap and haven't lost a step.

They've been the class of the league for the past decade, making up for the couple decades previous to that. They have found new talent in new areas, surprising the league time and again.

But is there a point where the rest of the league is rooting for anyone else to win? A point that the fans from other teams stand up for whoever they are playing in the hopes of seeing them lose?

Well, if there ever was a time, it would most certainly be now. 5 times in 12 years is a little... outstanding.

If the Penguins will do it though, they will have to fight through the Detroit defense, attack the lines with speed and force penalties. Only on the power play can the Penguins take over the series and start to dominate. They take momentum from the power play and carry it on to the rest of their game.

If Pittsburgh doesn't get work for their chances, especially second chances, they will not win this series.

It might be the league vs. the Red Wings but that doesn't make the task of beating them any easier. Congrats to both teams for being the first repeat finals since 1984. They most certainly are the two best teams. It'll be fun to watch, that's for sure.

If Detroit is healthy, I say Detroit in 7 but if they're not I give the edge to Pittsburgh in 6.
