Now, he's done it again.

The Colorado Avalanche have traded defenseman Colby Cohen to the Bruins for defenseman Matt Hunwick.

Now in the category of things the Avs needed, Hunwick was not one of them. Oh yes, please give me all the undersized defensemen who isn't shooting, isn't scoring and isn't hitting. Please send them over. Forget left wingers, bigger grinders our faceoff-winning centers. We'll take all the small defenseman you can give us.

Hunwick now joins a defense that includes Kevin Shattenkirk, John-Michael Liles, Kyle Cumiskey as small-type defensemen.

Meanwhile Cohen will go on to be a star. Big defenseman who hit, are gritty and have a big shot are so common in this game. Every team has at least five of them.

Aggravating trade for Sherman. Instead of a tandem of Shattenkirk and Cohen manning the points on the powerplay and mixing it up in front of the net, the Avs get Hunwick. Even if Hunwick finds something that the other 29 teams in the league couldn't, there is virtually no way he'll reach the peak that Cohen can and will.

Furthermore this trade adds more defensive depth to the Avs without improving it. Boston fans will be laughing about this one for many years now. Just image Cohen and Chara on that Boston powerplay. Marc Savard won't go near the net for fear of any shot hitting him.

If the Avs were dead-set on trading Cohen for some reason, they should have really acquired a forward, since, you know, the Avs currently have five on injured reserve.

Stupid trade that is going to be up there with the Drury trade in terms of stupidity.
