Two former Penguins that have contributed in a major way are now available on the open market. The first player hasn't played in Pittsburgh in quite some time.

This one is dead upon arrival for me. I think the aging curve has bit the once excellent Paul Martin. At this point it is probably better to stay with Oleksiak as your left handed bottom pair defenseman

Paul Martin was one of my favorite players during his time in Pittsburgh. So quietly and elegantly good. I'm certain that the manual passing data that has come out since his departure from Pittsburgh would have been extremely kind to him. Doesn't change the fact it is 2018.

The other player hasn't been gone long at all

Here's a really quick way to improve the fourth line while improving the overall scoring impact of the team. Chris Kunitz in a fourth line role is something that can make sense for a contending team. He can also kill penalties as he showed during the 2016-17 season. The contract would have to be in that 1M range and not the 2M he made last year. If he wants to keep playing and do so on a contender I see no reason why the Penguins wouldn't intrigue him.
