It’s draft day, which is always one of the most exciting nights of the year, especially with Ottawa having two first round picks.

However, other Senators news has taken precedence before we find out who they take 4th overall, as apparently Craig Anderson is looking for a new home:

It shouldn’t really come as a surprise, since the team is an absolute mess right now, and at the age of 37, Anderson wants to win. He still has two years remaining on his extension that he signed before the season, and will be making $4.75M per year. The frustrating part about that contract is that if Pierre Dorion had waited just a few weeks or months to see if Anderson was still good enough, there’s no way that he would have a contract this big. Instead, Ottawa will be looking for suitors, but they might have to eat some money.

The strange thing about this is that Bruce Garrioch had a weird follow-up with Anderson’s agent…

I’m not sure exactly what that’s supposed to mean, but it may just be a way of saying he doesn’t want to be very obvious about a trade request. Nevertheless, Dorion is probably looking for teams that are interested in Anderson, and that might not be very easy considering his age and contract status.

If this is the last we’ve seen of him as an Ottawa Senator, it’s incredibly sad because he’s the greatest goalie in franchise history, unless you want to include the brief stint that Dominik Hasek was here. But in seven and a half seasons and 351 games, he had a .917 SV%, where his high’s were incredibly high.

In the playoffs he was even better with a .928 SV% in 40 games. No matter what happens, Craig will hold a special place in Senators fans hearts, and it’s unfortunate that his final season here was filled with misery.

If and when he does get moved, I’ll be sure to post a longer article giving him a proper tribute.
