DON’T DISMISS THOMAS GREISS

Last season was abysmal for many NY Islanders fans. But nothing, and I MEAN nothing, was more abysmal than the season for Thomas Greiss.

Detractors cite that Thomas Greiss was due to come back to Earth after some better years with the Isles. However, he was not even near any career average last year. Instead, it was the outlier. He was one of the NHL's worst across the board.

Despite all of the Isles issues this past season, his performance was likely the difference between being a bubble playoff team. All he needed to do is play his average. The result was that catastrophic.

Greiss is key to having a solid backup that can win games and provide injury insurance. We don’t know how the Isles will fill-in a starting goalie, but Greiss getting back to his norm is key for them.

Linus Soderstrom will be coming over this summer, but the expectation is that he will need time at Bridgeport to adjust to the NHL game and play.

Per Elliotte Friedman in his 31 Thought must-reads…

“Adam Francilia, who has gained positive publicity through his off-season goalie-specific training with Devan Dubnyk and Connor Hellebuyck, is adding two new clients this summer. Michal Neuvirth already told Philadelphia reporters that he’s hired the British Columbia native. Meanwhile, Thomas Greiss, who split with Francilia two years ago, is reuniting with him. Greiss had a very difficult 2017-18.

Greiss has always been a fierce competitor.

John Tavares once said of Greiss:

“He's got a real competitiveness, a real fire to him in the net. You watch him practice and how long he stays out there to take shot after shot. I know how much pride he takes in stopping the puck and his expectations of himself. But he's a great guy to be around, a little laid-back so you've got to give it to him a little bit. He's been awesome."

NY ISLANDERS TO CONTINUE WITH ICEBERG ANALYTICS

Last year, Bloomberg broke a story on how the NY Islanders were moving over to Iceberg Analytics, a Russian company. Previously, they had been tied to POWER SCOUT HOCKEY. I have heard that they continue with Iceberg this season, as well.

Here is a recent piece on Iceberg Analytics and what they do. CLICK HERE.
